ADB Releases Report on Green Growth in Asia and the Pacific
story highlights

The report sets out ADB's medium-term operation programme on the environment, which will focus on three strategic directions: promoting transitions to sustainable infrastructure, including infrastructure that will counteract the causes and consequences of climate change; improving natural resource management and maintaining ecosystem integrity; and building environmental governance capacity.

ADB20 September 2011: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has released a report titled “Greening Growth in Asia and the Pacific,” which aims to present a snapshot of ADB’s support to environmentally sustainable growth in the region.
The report outlines emerging environment challenges including: increasing resource-intensive industry, pollution, and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions; increasing need for urban infrastructure and services; projected scarcities in food, water, and non-renewable resources; vulnerability to climate change; and weak environmental governance.

The report highlights several ADB initiatives promoting clean energy, sustainable transport and urban development, and climate resilient development. It also sets out ADB’s medium-term operation programme on the environment, which will focus on three strategic directions: promoting transitions to sustainable infrastructure, including infrastructure that will counteract the causes and consequences of climate change; improving natural resource management and maintaining ecosystem integrity; and building environmental governance capacity.
