20 September 2012: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has announced plans to lend an additional $300 million to the Government of India to upgrade a further 254 kilometers of state highways in Bihar, India. As well as upgrading the highway, the ADB will is funding the offset carbon emissions through tree planting.

According to the ADB, the project will involve the planting of ten trees for every individual tree cut down to make space for the highway. In addition, construction sites will utilize solar panels, and residents residing near the road will receive road safety training. [ADB Press Release]
