12 September 2014: The Adaptation Fund’s Third Climate Finance Readiness seminar, co-sponsored by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and supported by the Climate & Development Knowledge Network (CDKN), focused on the process of increasing the capacity of applicant and accredited implementing entities.
The seminar, which was held in Bangkok, Thailand, from 10-12 September 2014, was part of the Adaptation Fund’s Readiness Programme for Climate Finance, designed to strengthen the effective and fully-operational direct access climate finance model the Fund has pioneered. The event was attended by government representatives from the Asia-Pacific region, as well as various organizations, including the Green Climate Fund (GCF), Climate Action Network South Asia, CDKN, the Centre for Global Change, Practical Action, the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the World Resources Institute (WRI).
Welcoming the opportunity to directly access the Adaptation Fund’s climate adaptation funding, participants stressed their commitment to nominating and submitting national implementing entity (NIE) applications to the Adaptation Fund to achieve accreditation, which helps countries prepare to access other climate finances sources, such as the GCF.
Participants also considered: fiduciary standards for direct access from the Adaptation Fund and other financing institutions; climate finance readiness support from the Adaptation Fund and UNEP; and lessons on climate finance readiness from supporting organizations.
