UNFCCC2 December 2015: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released two reports of the Adaptation Committee: one on the Committee’s achievements in promoting enhanced action on adaptation and its future work plan and another on the available support for developing countries in formulating and implementing national adaptation plans (NAPs).

The report titled ‘Enhancing coherent action on adaptation 2012-2015 – 2015 Overview Report’ is the third annual report by the Adaptation Committee on the state of adaptation action under the Convention, and the Committee’s achievements in advancing adaptation action. The first section provides an overview of the Committee’s work in response to decisions of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP), and outlines technical support and guidance provided to Parties on: assessing vulnerabilities, impacts and risks; adaptation planning and implementation; and monitoring and evaluating adaptation measures.

The second section shows how the Committee raised awareness and increased information sharing by reaching out to, and building networks among, stakeholders from multilateral, international, regional and national organizations, the public and private sectors, civil society, and other relevant sectors. The final section outlines the Committee’s future work plan, noting that it will: further strengthen links with the Financial Mechanism; continue to enhance coherence and synergy; and continue to evaluate information on adaptation support and knowledge on adaptation planning and implementation.

The report titled ‘Navigating the landscape of support for the process to formulate and implement national adaptation plans – 2015 Overview for developing countries’ provides information on currently available support for NAP formulation and implementation, including institutions providing financial support or technical and institutional capacity-building, knowledge hubs and platforms, contact points and sources of additional information. The report’s annexes contain information on: steps under the elements of the process for NAP formulation and development; adaptation funds under the Convention and the Kyoto Protocol; examples of support provided; a list of bilateral donor agencies; and supplementary materials to the technical guidelines for NAP formulation and implementation.
