action/2015 Launches Global Campaign

The international campaign for action on addressing poverty, inequality, and climate change, action/2015, was launched globally on 15 January 2015.

Events took place in over 70 countries, with over 1,000 civil society organizations, governments, international organizations, and faith and youth groups involved.

Events took place in over 70 countries, with over 1,000 civil society organizations, governments, international organizations, and faith and youth groups involved.

action/2015 is a campaign-based coalition aimed at supporting success in UN processes taking place in 2015, namely the launch of the post-2015 development agenda, and the climate negotiations through the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The campaign seeks to raise public awareness of the issues and press world leaders to make strong commitments.

At a launch events around the world, celebrities and well-known figures pledged their support for action/2015. Malala Yousafzai, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, said “Together, we are demanding our leaders take action in 2015 and we must all do our part.” Many events focused on 15-year-olds, who were just born in the year 2000 when the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) first launched, and met in groups with political leaders in the US, UK, Tanzania, Norway, and India to present their priorities for 2015.
