ABS Protocol Reaches 48 Ratifications

Niger, Burundi, the Gambia, Madagascar, Mozambique, Sudan and Peru ratified the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization (ABS) in July 2014, bringing the total number of ratifications to 48.

CBD11 July 2014: Niger, Burundi, the Gambia, Madagascar, Mozambique, Sudan and Peru ratified the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization (ABS) in July 2014, bringing the total number of ratifications to 48.

The Nagoya Protocol will enter into force 90 days after the deposit of the 50th instrument of ratification. The deadline for ratifications, so that the first Meeting of the Parties to the Nagoya Protocol can be held concurrently with the second week of the twelfth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP 12), is 14 July 2014.
