The Covenant of Mayors is a global movement that began in the EU, and involves local and regional authorities that have voluntarily committed to increase energy efficiency and use renewable energy sources. Approximately 6,300 cities and towns in 54 countries have signed onto the Covenant, whose signatories aim to meet and even exceed the EU’s 20% carbon reduction target by 2020.
