Fao_2The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has called upon countries to participate in preparing the next Global Forest Resources Assessment, the most comprehensive data collection on the state of the world’s forests to date.

Jan Heino, Assistant Director-General for FAO’s Forestry Department, said “the 2010 assessment will be an important tool in measuring the impact of deforestation on climate change and the role of forests in mitigating the effects of climate change.”
