10ypfSeptember 2015: The Secretariat of the 10-Year Framework of Programmes (10YFP) on Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) has called for project proposals promoting sustainable tourism and scaling up efforts toward sustainable lifestyles and education. Applicants can seek project funding of US$100,000-500,000 from the 10YFP Trust Fund, which is administered by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP).

The 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, first called for action to promote patterns of consumption and production that reduce environmental stress and meet the basic needs of humanity. At the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) in Johannesburg, South Africa, SCP was recognized as an essential part of sustainable development, and the Summit outcome called for development of the 10YFP. The 10YFP was adopted at the 2012 UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) as a global framework of action to accelerate the shift to SCP in developed as well as developing countries. The 10YFP aims to scale up SCP and resource efficiency initiatives, and decouple environmental degradation from economic growth.

There are six programmes operating under the 10YFP, on: consumer information; sustainable lifestyles and education; sustainable public procurement; sustainable buildings and construction; sustainable tourism, including ecotourism; and sustainable food systems. The 10YFP Secretariat in Paris, France, supports a UN interagency coordination group, a board consisting of two members from each UN regional group, and national and stakeholder focal points.

Governments and not-for-profit organizations in developing countries and countries with economies in transition are eligible to submit proposals for one- to two-year projects that will promote SCP in the tourism sector, and mainstream existing efforts on sustainable lifestyles and education. The closing date for submissions is 16 October 2015. [Call for Proposals] [SCP Clearinghouse] [UNEP Website on 10YFP]
