World Telecommunication Development Conference 2014

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) will hold its sixth World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC 2014) under the overarching theme ‘Broadband for Sustainable Development'. The objectives of the conference are to: address development priorities in telecommunications and information and communication technologies (ICT), and agree on programmes, projects and initiatives to implement them; and set the agenda for telecommunications and ICT development over the next four years, through the Dubai Action Plan, which is expected to be adopted. The WTDC also will assess progress in implementing the Hyderabad Action Plan initiated in 2010, as well as other key activity areas, such as the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), the Connect the World Summits held since 2007, and strengthening ITU's regional presence. WTDC-14 will be preceded by an Executive Strategic Dialogue on Broadband for Sustainable Development, on 29 March 2014, which will provide an opportunity to exchange views on trends, challenges and opportunities of the telecommunications/ICT sector. ITU holds the WTDC every four years to take stock of achievements in the ICT sector and in sustainable development.
