The theme of this year’s World Science Day for Peace and Development is “Towards green societies: equity, inclusiveness, participation”. The Day's celebrations are organized by the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), within the context of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20). The objective is to engage people, including the scientific community, on the role of science towards Green Societies.
