The Economist Group’s World Ocean Initiative will convene the sixth World Ocean Summit in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Hosted by the Abu Dhabi Environment Agency and Department of Economic Development, the event will bring together political leaders and policymakers, heads of global business, scientists, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and multilaterals from across the globe to build greater collaboration across regions and connect the world to new ideas and perspectives on the future of the ocean.

The overarching theme for the Summit is ‘Building Bridges,’ and featured topics are:

• finance, including: the role of sovereign wealth funds; blue carbon systems; insurance; and Islamic finance and the ocean;
• technology and innovation, including aquaculture and cities and waste management; and
• governance, including illegal fishing and lessons from land economies.
