This workshop, organized by the UN Environment Programme's (UNEP) International Environmental Technology Centre (IETC) in cooperation with the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), will gather experts from governments, intergovernmental organizations, the private sector, academia and public interest groups to review and finalize the “Guidelines for the Development, Review and Updating of National Waste Management Strategies (NWMS)” developed by IETC and UNITAR, in response to decisions by the UNEP Governing Council and the Rio+20 outcome document. The workshop will also discuss implementation of the guidelines through possible pilot projects and the development of further materials.
