Workshop on Developing Forest Adaptation Strategies under Changing Climate Scenarios

In collaboration with the United States Forest Service (USFS), the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) is organizing a regional workshop on forest fire management that will focus on developing forest adaptation strategies under changing climate scenarios and the use of geospatial support systems for improved forest fire management. Delegates from relevant institutions of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, and Pakistan will participate. The workshop will devote one day to policy, during which senior policy makers from the different countries will be invited to share experiences, challenges and lessons learned, along with recommendations for improving policies, mainstreaming of technical inputs and future collaboration. The workshop will dedicate two days to technical training on: fire detection mapping, highlighting the underlying theory of remote sensing; and operational aspects of the SERVIR-Himalaya forest fire monitoring application. Other issues on the agenda will be climate change, forest fire risk assessment, and fire behavior models.
