Workshop on Assessing the Potential Impact of the Belt and Road Initiative on SDGs in Asian Economies

The UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) and the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) will convene a ‘Workshop on Assessing the Potential Impact of the Belt and Road Initiative on SDGs in Asian Economies’.

China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is a lending programme under which ports, roads, railway lines, airports and power grids are to be built across Asia. Cast against the backdrop of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the BRI has the potential to create a new development dynamic that will facilitate the emergence of policies aimed at achieving the SDGs. The macroeconomic, social and environmental impacts of BRI-led projects need to be analyzed to ensure that policymakers in the participating countries gain the information that would yield the best policy advice, and resources are channeled towards the most impactful projects.

Participation in the workshop is by invitation only.
