As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Government of Jamaica, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) and the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) decided to postpone the VII Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in the Americas and the Caribbean, originally scheduled to be held in Montego Bay in July 2020.

The VII Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) in the Americas and the Caribbean will convene under the theme, ‘Building Resilient Economies in the Americas and the Caribbean,’ to raise awareness of the increasing economic and human cost of disasters in the Americas and the Caribbean, including the special challenges facing small island developing States (SIDS).

As decided at the VI Regional Platform for DRR in the Americas in Cartagena, Colombia, in June 2018, the Forum will by hosted by Jamaica, the first Caribbean country to host a regional platform. The event is organized by the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction – Regional Office for the Americas and the Caribbean (UNDRR AM).
