The President of the 66th Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) will convene this thematic debate on preparations for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) in 2012, under the theme “Road to Rio+20 and beyond”. The thematic debate will also involve a consideration of the role of the General Assembly in supporting the objectives of Rio+20. Two panel discussions will focus on the centrality of political commitment, the importance of a sustained and meaningful engagement of all stakeholders for a successful outcome in Rio and the post-2015 Development Agenda.
