UNGA Informal Briefing on Sustainable Finance

UN General Assembly (UNGA) President Peter Thomson is convening this informal briefing as part of efforts to promote increased alignment of private investments and capital flows with the SDGs, including through greening the financial system and its regulatory mechanisms. The briefing will showcase the work of the UNEP Inquiry into the Design of a Sustainable Financial System, and a report by the Brookings Institution titled ‘Links in the Chain of Sustainable Finance: Accelerating Private Investments for the SDGs, Including Climate’. Thomson aims to highlight ways for delegations to follow up on this work. Thomson notes that “Sustainable Finance” refers to financial flows, public and private, allocated to simultaneously promotes economic growth, social inclusion and environmental stewardship.
