UNECE Sustainable Urban Development Seminar: Building the Cities We Want

The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) is organizing this Green Economy seminar during the UNECE Sustainable Energy week. The seminar focuses on two themes relating to current and future trends and challenges in European cities: energy, transport and technologies, including the concept of “smart cities;” and aging and accessibility issues. Recommendations from the discussions will be used to conceptualize UNECE's potential activities on sustainable urban development. The seminar is linked to the Rio+20 conference outcome on a “holistic approach to urban development and human settlements [and] an integrated approach to planning and building sustainable cities and urban settlements.” Speakers include representatives from governments, academia and the private sector as well as staff members of UNECE and its UN partner organizations.
