UNECE Sustainable Energy Week

The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) is organizing Sustainable Energy Week under the theme 'Energy for Sustainable Development: Trends and Milestones'. The three primary events of the week are the meetings of: the Group of Experts on Energy Efficiency (GEEE) on 17-18 November 2014; the Group of Experts on Renewable Energy (GERE) on 18-19 November; and the 23rd session of the Committee on Sustainable Energy (CSE), from 19-21 November. Among other agenda items, GEEE will: discuss and approve its draft work plan; consider such cross-cutting issues as sustainable housing, smart cities, industry and renewable energy; and hear the outcomes of the 5th International Forum: Energy for Development. GERE will, inter alia: discuss renewable energy best-practices; address renewable energy finance and investment; consider how a competitive market environment for renewables can be created; and approve a draft work plan. Highlights from the CSE session agenda include a high-level segment on 'Energy for Sustainable Development: Must Reality Conflict with Ambition?', a discussion on accelerating energy efficiency uptake, and a discussion on how renewables can optimize energy systems. A workshop on the UN Framework Classification for Fossil Energy and Mineral Reserves and Resources 2009 (UNFC-2009) classification of renewable energies will also take place during the Week.
