The preparatory process of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) has identified “disaster risk reduction (DRR) and resilience” as one of the emerging issues in the context of sustainable development. The 66th President of the UN General Assembly (UNGA), Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, is convening this debate on addressing disaster risk through public investment decisions. The objective is to support and advance the dialogue already underway on how best to integrate the DRR approach into the Rio+20 outcomes.
