UArctic Congress 2018

The UArctic Congress 2018, hosted by the University of Oulu and the University of Helsinki as part of Finland’s Arctic Council Chairmanship programme, comprises key UArctic meetings and a science conference.

The event will highlight the themes and priorities of the Finnish chairmanship, including the SDGs, supporting gender equality and the Paris Agreement on climate change. The UArctic Congress will feature, inter alia, sessions, aligned with the four priorities of Finland’s Chairmanship, on environmental protection, connectivity, meteorological cooperation, and education, as well as side events.

The UArctic Congress aims to take the Arctic agenda forward by creating and strengthening collaborations that produce new findings and solutions for the future of the Arctic region. It will bring together institutional leaders, indigenous representatives, academics, scientists and students from around the Circumpolar North and beyond. The UArctic Congress, organized by partners from Finnish government, academia, research institutes and others, will begin in Oulu, from 3-6 September, and conclude in Helsinki on 7 September.
