Transport and Sustainable Urban Environments

Transportation plays an important role in the sustainability of the urban environment. With high rates of urbanization and sprawling metropolises, our modal choices have significant environmental, social, and economic impacts.

This CSIN webinar examines how we can promote sustainable transportation by encouraging sustainable commuting patterns. Two speakers will discuss new methods that can be used to identify opportunities for more efficient and convenient public transit systems:

  • Jennifer McGowan (Project Lead, Smart Commute – City of Toronto) will discuss Smart Commute and how it is promoting sustainable transportation by encouraging employees to reevaluate their commuting patterns;
  • Kyle Wiebe (IISD’s SDG Knowledge Program) will discuss new techniques to evaluate public transit systems and explore how these methods can lead to a fuller understanding of public transit ridership and encourage targeted public transit policies.

This webinar is free of charge and open to the public. To register for the event, click here.
