Towards a Global Pact for the Environment: First Substantive Session

This meeting is the first in a series of substantive meetings in Nairobi, Kenya, through which governments aim to present recommendations to the UN General Assembly in the first half of 2019.

An ad hoc open‑ended working group to consider a technical and evidence-based report that identifies and assesses possible gaps in international environmental law and environment-related instruments with a view to strengthening their implementation, was established by UN General Assembly (UNGA) resolution 72/272 of 10 May 2018. The group is co-chaired by the Permanent Representatives of Portugal and Lebanon to the UN.

The working group's organizational session in September 2018 is covered here (first day), here (second day) and here (third day).
