The Third UN Special Thematic Session on Water and Disasters will convene under the theme 'Adaptation to Climate Change, Boosting Financing and Investment, and Advancing Science and Technology'. The Session is proposed to continue the global dialogue and maintain high level of awareness on the issues of water and disasters among UN Member States. The primary objective of the event is to underscore the issue of “Water-related Extreme Events,” which impact achievement of sustainable development. The event aims to provide a concrete step forward towards implementation of globally agreed agendas. Messages and recommendations from the meeting will be delivered to the relevant major UN conferences/outcomes including the UN General Assembly, and the UN Decade of Action on Water for Sustainable Development (2018-2028), the Sendai Framework, the High-Level Panel on Water, and global review processes for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
