This Symposium is being co-hosted by the Government of Australia and the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), in preparation for the 2012 UN Development Cooperation Forum (UNDCF), taking place in New York, US, on 5-6 July 2012. It will focus on what the concept of sustainable development means for how development cooperation is “approached, allocated, delivered and used.” Building on the recommendations of the UN High-level Panel on Global Sustainability report, the Symposium will discuss the implications of giving greater priority to sustainable development in development cooperation, and recommend concrete actions to ensure development cooperation enables sustainable development. The outcomes of the Symposium will feed into the UN Convention on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20).
