The Role of Circular Economy in the Transition Towards a Pollution-Free Planet

This side event will take place during the third session of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA 3). It is organized by the EU and sponsored with UNEP (UN Environment), Ellen MacArthur Foundation, World Economic Forum, Chatham House and the Institute of Development Studies.

The event will set the frame for global action on sustainable consumption and production (SCP), exploring how a circular economy can address resource constraints and generate economic opportunities for a pollution-free world. Specific examples will be highlighted, such as the EU Plastics Strategy to promote sustainable use of plastics and reduce waste, and their contribution to specific SDG targets will be shown. Panelists will discuss how to accelerate and scale up action ahead of the 2018 session of the UN High-level Political Forum (HLPF).
