TEEB Workshop on Consumption and Lifestyle Patterns

This Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity (TEEB) workshop will convene under the theme 'The Impact of Consumption on Ecosystems and Biodiversity Beyond Borders – A TEEB Perspective' and will address, inter alia: causes and factors for ecosystem degradation and loss of biodiversity as a result of unfavorable consumption patterns; useful methods to trace evidence and develop solutions to adapt demand for harmful consumer products; existing initiatives to tackle the problem; the role TEEB can play in raising awareness and instigating action; and the potential of relevant policy approaches and instruments, such as in relation to international trade, supply-chain management and food waste reduction. The workshop will provide an opportunity to discuss scientific, policy and implementation related work on these aspects and to further explore their implications and results in breakout groups and discussion sessions. The workshop is organized by the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN), the UN Environment Programme's (UNEP) TEEB Office and the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research.
