Summit Muuchtanbal on Indigenous Experience: Traditional Knowledge and Biological and Cultural Diversity

The Government of Mexico, the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the International Indigenous Forum on Biodiversity and other partners are jointly organizing the Muuchtanbal Summit in conjunction with the thirteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 13) to the CBD. The Summit will convene under the theme, 'Mainstreaming the Contributions of Traditional Knowledge, Innovation and Practices across Agriculture, Fisheries, Forestry and Tourism Sectors for the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Biodiversity for Well-being.' Participants will exchange information and experiences on the contributions of traditional knowledge and customary sustainable use of biodiversity across these sectors. They will also discuss the links between biological and cultural diversity and implications for policymakers at the international and national levels. The Summit is meant to raise awareness and promote the importance of the collective contributions of indigenous peoples and local communities to the conservation and sustainable use and management of biodiversity.
