This workshop will consider the theme, 'Financing Climate Change Adaptation in Transboundary Basins,' and will convene back-to-back with the 8th meeting of the Task Force on Water and Climate. The workshop is organized in the framework of the UNECE Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes (Water Convention) and under the leadership of the Governments of the Netherlands and Switzerland, in cooperation with international partners, including the World Bank Group, AGWA, IUCN and WMO. In light of the outcomes of UNFCCC COP 21 and in view of the upcoming COP 22 in Morocco, the workshop aims to facilitate implementation and financing of basin-wide adaptation – from strategies and plans to concrete measures – while considering differences in transboundary basins' governance, administrative structure and mandate. It will also consider the current global climate finance infrastructure, barriers and challenges in accessing climate finance for water and discuss how to ensure transboundary aspects are taken into account in national and local projects, where relevant. Private sector and innovative finance mechanisms will also be considered. The workshop will bring together water practitioners and authorities responsible for addressing climate change impacts, at the national and transboundary levels, with representatives of bilateral and multilateral donors, financing institutions and the private sector.
