Second Ministerial Conference on Civil Registration and Vital Statistics in Asia and the Pacific

The Second Ministerial Conference on Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) in Asia and the Pacific will mark the midpoint in the Asia-Pacific CRVS Decade (2015 – 2024). The Decade is the shared vision declared at the First Ministerial Conference on CRVS in 2014 to “Get Every One in the Picture” and ensure, by 2024, that all people in the region will benefit from universal and responsive CRVS systems.

CRVS data is critical for monitoring the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Many SDG indicators, including those aimed at reducing maternal and infant mortality, eliminating poverty, building resilience to climate-related disasters and guaranteeing legal identity for all, rely on effective CRVS data. This Conference will bring together government ministers in charge of civil registration, planning, justice, health, statistics, finance and national identification systems. An expected outcome of the Conference is the adoption of a Ministerial Declaration to identify outstanding challenges to national CRVS systems and promote the acceleration of progress in achieving the goals and targets of the CRVS Decade.
