The Second Extraordinary Session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) will take place online through a silence/written procedure to consider and approve an interim programme budget for the UNCCD Secretariat’s operations in 2022.
The COP Bureau decided to hold ES-2 as a result of the continued postponement of the UNCCD COP 15—originally scheduled to take place in late 2021—due to the COVID-19 pandemic. COP 15 is now expected to take place in Côte d’Ivoire in mid-2022. The approval of an interim programme budget will enable the Convention and the Secretariat to continue functioning until COP 15 can take place.
