The side event to the UN General Assembly's (UNGA) Second Committee, titled 'Expanding Economic Growth: Transitioning from the Informal to the Formal Economy,' is organized by the International Labour Organization (ILO). It aims to provide a platform for UN Member States and development partners to better: explore how the transition from the informal to the formal economy could contribute to enhancing productivity, innovation and achieving inclusive growth and decent work for all; define the contours of a better diagnostic of the informal economy and its main drivers at the national level from a comparative perspective; explore the opportunity offered by ILO Recommendation 204 (R204) to contribute to the fulfillment of the objectives of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development; and identify actions needed at the international and national levels to promote effective integrated frameworks to facilitate the transition from the informal to the formal economy.
