Second Clean Pacific Roundtable

The second Clean Pacific Roundtable (CPRT) themed, ‘Collaborating for a Cleaner, Safer Pacific Environment,’ will bring together more than 150 Pacific island delegates to discuss solutions and actions to address different waste challenges across the region.

Organized by the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), with support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), EU and other partners, the meeting is expected to: enable the monitoring and progress reporting of the Pacific Regional Waste and Pollution Management Strategy, or Cleaner Pacific 2025; facilitate dialogue and networking in the region on waste issues and initiatives and explore additional investments and funding opportunities towards a safer and sustainable waste management systems; and coordinate donor mechanisms in the region and optimize use of investment and funding allocation for the waste and pollution sector.

More specifically, the CPRT will focus on seven key topics: 1) boosting ecotourism through proper waste management; 2) coordinated actions to combat marine debris; 3) enhancing proper management of hazardous wastes; 4) ensuring more informed decisions through waste data management; 5) further enhancement of regional capacity in waste management; 6) planning and responding to disaster wastes; and 7) regional coordination in recycling.
