The UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR), Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR), the International Science Council (ISC) and the Scientific and Technical Advisory Group (STAG) will convene the Science and Policy Forum for the Implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) in conjunction with the Global Platform for DRR 2019.

The event aims to, inter alia: share and review progress in global, regional, national and local implementation of science-based policy making and risk-sensitive development as a basis for enhanced engagement between science and policy for risk-informed decision making across the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development; and fill the current gap in knowledge and application of new technologies for DRR and enhanced resilience.

The Forum will feed into the Global Platform for DRR 2019, the Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD) and high-level UN meetings on climate change and the SDGs.
