UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN-DESA), in collaboration with Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL), UN-Energy and the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), is organizing this event to strengthen capacities on policy, technical and entrepreneurial approaches to rural energy access for eradicating poverty. Specific objectives of the conference include, among others: promoting dialogue among practitioners, experts, donors and policy-makers; assessing potential integrated policy options to address rural energy poverty; identify synergies between energy and other development factors including health, education, economic growth, gender, water and food security; discussing ways to apply models and practices to scale-up clean cookstoves and renewable energy home systems; and supporting the Rio+20 follow-up process and the post-2015 development agenda.
