5-8 June 2023 San Jose, Costa Rica
RightsCon 2023

RightsCon will bring together over 8,000 participants from 174 countries across 15 tracks of programming focused on a rights-respecting digital future. Sessions will address a range of topics, including access and inclusion; artificial intelligence; business, labor, and trade; conflict and humanitarian action; content governance and disinformation; cyber norms and encryption; data protection; digital security for communities; emerging tech; freedom of the media; futures, fictions, and creativity; governance, politics, and elections; human rights-centered design; justice, litigation, and documentation; online hate and violence; philanthropy and organizational development; privacy and surveillance; shutdowns and censorship; and tactics for activists. The event will convene in person in Costa Rica and online.

The first RightsCon event convened in 2011 with the aim of creating a civil society-led space where government representatives, human rights defenders, tech companies, and other stakeholders could come together to build a rights-respecting digital future. Since the first event, RightsCon has rotated among five continents and grown in scope and size.
