Renewable Energy for Sustainable Development

This side event will be held during the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) and will focus on renewable energy for sustainable development, biogas, hydro-energy and biofuels. It will also include the launch of the International Center of Renewable Energy Biogas, in the framework of the Observatory for Renewable Energy for Latin America and the Caribbean. The UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) will also address the potentials of sustainable energy solutions in contributing to employment creation and poverty alleviation. The event is being organized by the Federations of Industries of São Paulo (SFIESP) and Rio de Janeiro (FIRJAN) states, UNIDO, Eletrobras, ITAIPU Binacional, Brazilian Ministry of Energy, Roberto Marinho Foundation, the Brazilian Sugarcane Industry Association (UNICA), and Rio City Hall.
