Regional Conference on Social Development in Latin America and the Caribbean

This conference aims to promote and support strengthening of the LAC region's social development policies, as well as to increase cooperation and the exchange of experiences among countries. Participants will include ministers and other authorities of the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean's (ECLAC) Member States, as well as international officials and representatives of civil society. A position document titled ‘Inclusive Social Development: A New Generation of Policies for Overcoming Poverty and Inequality,' to be presented at the conference, analyzes recent progress and challenges, and offers recommendations regarding public policies in the region. The conference will include roundtables on: elements of success and pending challenges in terms of poverty, social inclusion and inequality; macroeconomics and taxation for inclusive social development; progress on the role of social institutions; focus and strategies of the new generation of social policies; and advancing the understanding and measurement of multidimensional poverty. The event is being convened by ECLAC, the Government of Peru and the UN Development Programme (UNDP). The Regional Conference on Social Development was created in 2014.
