This meeting will take stock of preparations toward a global compact on safe, regular and orderly migration. The meeting takes place in accordance with the UN General Assembly's 6 April 2017 resolution on modalities for the intergovernmental negotiations of the global compact (A/RES/71/280). The preparatory process leading to the adoption of the global compact comprises three phases: consultations from April-November 2017; stocktaking from November 2017 – January 2018; and intergovernmental negotiations from February-July 2018. The meeting will take stock of inputs received during the consultation phase and will also discuss means of implementation and mechanisms for follow-up and review. The Government of Mexico is hosting the meeting.
