Planetary Security Conference #Doable

The Planetary Security Initiative (PSI) will convene a two-day Planetary Security Conference #Doable, which will include plenary session, special sessions and workshops.

The conference will address a range of climate security-related topics, including: the EU’s approach and actions on the climate-security nexus; climate-induced instability in Middle East and North Africa (MENA); building food systems for security and conflict reduction in Africa; establishing a UN joint climate security risk mechanism; managing climate security risks and just energy transitions in Caribbean small island developing States (SIDS); and the Global Commission on Adaptation and its relevance to security.

Launched by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands in 2015, the PSI seeks to: enhance political involvement in climate security; strengthen the knowledge-policy interface by consolidating a global, cross-sectoral and interdisciplinary community of practice; develop and promote policies and good practice to support governments, the private sector and implementing agencies in securing peace in regions affected by climate change; and operate as a permanent platform for international cooperation on planetary security. The PSI is supported by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), City of The Hague, World Resources Institute (WRI) and Overseas Development Institute, among other partners.
