Open Meeting on Synergies Between UNGA, ECOSOC, 2030 Agendas

The co-facilitators for consultations aimed at enhancing synergies and coherence and reducing overlap in the agendas of the UN General Assembly (UNGA), the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and their subsidiary bodies, in light of the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, will hold an open meeting with UN Member States and other relevant stakeholders. The co-facilitators – Gillian Bird, Permanent Representative of Australia, and Martin Garcia Moritan, Permanent Representative of Argentina – undertook informal consultations following an initial briefing on 7 February 2017. At the open meeting on 6 March, they will provide an update on the consultations as well as seek further views, including on three questions: 1. How can we encourage the General Assembly Committees, the ECOSOC main segments, and the ECOSOC Functional Commissions to combine their efforts in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda? 2. How can the General Assembly Committees coherently embody the 2030 Agenda into their mandates and agendas? How can we improve their interaction? 3. How can our process take into consideration other reform initiatives in the General Assembly and in ECOSOC as well as implementation of the Quadrennial Comprehensive Policy Review, and the efforts of the Secretary-General? The event will begin at 3:00 pm.
