Mountain Day 2 is being jointly organized by the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) and the Mountain Partnership Secretariat (MPS) / UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in the context of the Strategic Initiative for Mountains and Climate Change funded by the Development Grant Facility of the World Bank. Other sponsors and partners include the Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS), WWF, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), and the Government of Nepal. The event will highlight the critical role of mountain ecosystems for climate adaptation and sustainable development. It will focus on the theme “Mainstreaming Rio+20 outcomes in UNFCCC processes for prosperous, resilient, and sustainable mountain ecosystems and communities.” The Day will be held in parallel to the 18th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 18) to the UNFCCC in Doha, Qatar, on 3 December 2012.
