Minamata Convention COP-4

The fourth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP-4) to the Minamata Convention on Mercury is expected to review the Convention’s Annexes A and B and financial mechanism, and conduct an effectiveness review of the Convention.

COP-4 was originally scheduled to take place in Bali, Indonesia, from 1-5 November 2021. Due to the global pandemic, the Bureau decided to organize COP-4 in two segments: a first segment to be conducted online within the period of 1-5 November 2021 and a second segment to be conducted in-person in the first quarter of 2022 in Bali, Indonesia.

The Minamata Convention was adopted to address mercury, a heavy metal that is persistent in the environment. The Convention was adopted on 10 October 2013, and entered into force on 16 August 2017.
