The Department of Democratic Sustainability and Special Missions of the Organization of American States (OAS) Secretariat will convene a Meeting of Government Experts on the Management of Socio-Environmental Conflict for the Central American and the Andean Regions to reflect, analyze and debate the dynamics of “socio-environmental” conflict in participating member States and possible frameworks for managing such conflicts. The meeting will specific look at citizen participation in public policy formation, prior consultations, early warning systems and dialogue as a tool for socio-environmental conflict management.
