Latin America and the Caribbean Scientific Data Management Workshop

The Latin America and the Caribbean Scientific Data Management Workshop is being convened by the World Data System (WDS). It will discuss data management best practices for data repositories located throughout Latin America and the Caribbean, and will map initiatives that are either under way or in the process of being developed, their strengths and limitations, and new opportunities for collaboration. In addition, future trends and perspectives for scientific data systems, as well as criteria and standards for certification of data repositories, will be discussed.

The workshop will address: new trends and future perspectives for scientific data projects; global scientific data initiatives; open data and open science trends and experiences; Latin American and Caribbean scientific data context and experiences; integration and constitution of shared platforms for research data management; advantages and process of accreditation of scientific data repositories; and funding, training and infrastructure for scientific data services

The workshop is sponsored by ICSU-WDS, the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC), the Museum of Tomorrow, the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI), and the InterAmerican Network of Academies of Sciences (IANAS) with the support of the ICSU Regional Office for Latin America and Caribbean (ICSU-ROLAC) National Laboratory of Scientific Computation (LNCC), the Brazilian National Research and Education Network (RNP), and the Brazilian Institute of Information in Science and Technology (IBICT).
