Jakarta Global Sustainable Development Conference

The ‘International Expert Workshop on Sustainable Development: Addressing nexus issues in urbanization era,' will discuss urbanization issues including water, energy and food security, in the context of potential sustainable development goals (SDGs) and providing networking opportunity on a global partnership for development. The conference will discuss the challenges facing urban area with insights from case studies by Indonesian MDG stakeholders. The workshop aims to strengthen links between researchers in the fields of environment and development. The research project “Sustainability Transformation beyond 2015 (post-2015)” supported by the Ministry of Environment, Japan, is organizing the three-day conference. Project stakeholders include the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), the United National University Institute for Advanced Studies (UNU-IAS), Research Institute for Humanity and Nature (RIHN), the Tokyo Institute of Technology and several Indonesian utilities providers and NGO. A visit to a slum area of Jakarta will take place on the first day, followed by presentations from stakeholders on the second day and participatory workshop on the themes of energy, water, food, and employment on the third day. International organizations taking part in the conference include the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Indonesia's Presidential Working Unit of Supervision and Control Development, and Indonesia's National Team for the Acceleration of Poverty Reduction. Attendance is by invitation only.
