Organized under the theme 'Mountain Farming,' the 2014 International Mountain Day will focus on highlighting the rapid transformation of family farming in mountain regions driven by population growth and economic globalization, among other factors. The Day is meant to provide opportunities to: raise awareness on the importance of mountains to life; highlight opportunities and constraints in mountain development; and build partnerships for positive change in mountains and highlands, globally. Coordinated by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), the Day will also constitute one of the concluding events of the 2014 International Year of Family Farming and link to relevant FAO publications and programmes.
