International Dialogue on Migration 2016: Follow-up and Review of Migration in the SDGs

This intersessional workshop will address tools and mechanisms that will help Member States to measure progress on the migration-related targets of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It will also look at options for “thematic review” of migration related SDG targets. The event will also address: reviewing the evidence for migration in development; methods for monitoring migration-related targets in SDGs; shape of a thematic review on migration in the SDGs; and the role for the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in achieving of migration-related SDGs targets. The workshop will bring together high-level government representatives, local and regional authorities, international organizations, NGOs including regional consultative processes (RCPs) on migration, the private sector and civil society organizations to review and validate approaches to achieving and monitoring the migration-related SDG targets.

A second workshop will take place in October 2016, in Geneva, to review the results of initiatives on monitoring migration related SDG target. This second workshop will be followed by a one day Global Regional Consultative Process (GRCP) meeting. The results of International Dialogue on Migration 2016 and the GRCP will be consolidated in a publication, and will constitute an input to the December 2016 Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) Summit in Dhaka.
