The International Day of Peace is observed annually around the world on 21 September. The theme for 2017 is: 'Together for Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for All'. The theme honors the spirit of TOGETHER, a global initiative that promotes respect, safety and dignity for everyone forced to flee their homes in search of a better life.

Events to mark the day will take place on 15 September 2017, when the Secretary-General will celebrate the Day in the Peace Garden at UN Headquarters by ringing the Peace Bell and observing a minute of silence. UN Messengers of Peace will participate in the ceremony. The UN Education Outreach Section will hold a global student videoconference on the same day, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., also at UN Headquarters.
